Seasonal Flu Remedies That Guard Against Influenza

One would not normally expect flu remedies to also be able to guard against influenza but such is the case with elderberry extract. The extract, taken from the fruit of the elderberry bush, has long been used in food and drink, as well as for immune support and as a flu remedy.
While many alternative medical treatments have fallen short when confronted with the rigors of scientific research, elderberry extract has, in fact, been shown to both block influenza viruses from attaching to host cells, as well as significantly reducing the duration and severity of flu symptoms, making it both a flu remedy and preventative measure.

Each year, a genetic variation of what is referred to as the seasonal influenza virus travels around the globe, killing hundreds of thousands of people.
Pandemics are viruses that travel and spread faster than the normal, seasonal variety. The worst influenza pandemic of the 20th century, the Spanish Flu of 1918, killed over 50 million people. There are several steps individuals can take to prevent the spread of the influenza virus with strong immune support, healthy habits and common sense.
If infection occurs, elderberry extract can be used to reduce the time it takes to recover and to minimize the intensity of the symptoms.

Healthy Habits And Common Sense
The number one way to guard against influenza is to wash your hands frequently with soap and water. When school-aged children were taught the importance of hand washing and shown to cough and sneeze into the crook of their arm, rather than into their hands, colds and flu were reduced by over 80 percent.
When infected individuals cough into their hand, everything they touch becomes contaminated with millions of viruses. Since the influenza virus can stay alive for hours without a host, touching a contaminated surface and then touching your face is another means of catching the flu. The influenza virus is also commonly spread through the air.

Flu vaccine is one of the flu remedies that people turn to as a preventative measure. Being vaccinated, however, does not prevent them from carrying the virus on their clothing or other items and spreading the infection to others. Hand sanitizers are another good line of defense against the flu.
Eating a healthy diet, staying hydrated and getting enough rest are also important. Vitamin C and Zinc will also provide immune support, but neither of those dietary supplements can compare to the immune support provided by elderberry extract.

Immune Support From Elderberry Extract
In a study published in the July 2009 issue of the Scientific Journal of Phytochemistry, a peer-reviewed scientific journal (Volume 70, Issue 10), elderberry extract was demonstrated to contain flavonoids that provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
The immune support from antioxidants counteracts the effects of free radicals, which damage healthy cells, making them less able to protect against infection.
Even more important and impressive were the findings that elderberry extract attaches, or binds, itself to the influenza virus, rending the virus incapable of attaching itself to a host cell. Viruses replicate by binding to a host cell and injecting their own DNA into the cell, which reprograms the cell to create more viruses.
The miserable symptoms of flu can be agonizing including chills, fever, nausea, weakness, diarrhea, headache and muscle and joint pain.

Elderberry Extract Is One Of The Most Effective Flu Remedies
In addition to providing immune support, elderberry extract has been scientifically proven to reduce the time it takes an infected person to recover, as well as minimize the intensity of the symptoms.
The flu virus generally takes six days to complete its cycle. However, in a study published in the Online Journal of Pharmacology and PharmacoKinetics, elderberry extract was shown to be an effective flu remedy within 48 hours, a result that many other flu remedies cannot provide.

Participants in this double blind, placebo controlled research all demonstrated flu-like symptoms at the beginning of the study. Half of the participants were given a placebo while the other half was given elderberry extract. During the first 24 hours, the group given the elderberry extract noted significant improvements whereas the placebo group felt notably worse.
Within 48 hours, 28 percent of the elderberry group was completely symptom free and 60 percent reported only one or two mild symptoms. During the same time frame, only 16 percent of the placebo group reported feeling any better at all, whereas the majority felt significantly worse and for several more days.

While there may be no cure for the common cold, elderberry extract has demonstrated its usefulness as one of the most effective flu remedies one can choose, both to prevent and reduce symptoms of the flu.

Flu and Colds - Fight Them With Elderberry Extract

Flu and colds have been a problem for mankind for a long time and there is presently no cure for these maladies which beset us mostly in the winter season. All kinds of natural remedies and home treatments are used to treat colds and flu from chicken soup to a noggin of rum. Many of these treatments can provide some relief but we still await the day when a cure will be found.

Some herbal remedies are used to fight or treat colds and flu. Immune system boosters such as ginseng and echinacea have been found to help some people. Perhaps the most interesting herbal remedy is elderberry. Elderberry has been used as a remedy for colds, flu and sinus infections for a long time. More recently medical studies have found that elderberry does in fact provide immune system enhancement,
anti-inflammatory and virus fighting properties.

Flu can be a quite nasty disease, which can lower the immune systems disease fighting ability and allow pneumonia or other serious illnesses to take hold. For this reason medical treatment should be sought when anyone gets the flu. Whether it be seasonal flu or H1N1 swine flu there are antiviral medications such as Tamiflu which will help.

As an additional help in providing relief, herbs such as elderberry can be used.Elderberry is thought to boost the immune system by increasing the bodies production of cytokines according to a study, involving the proprietary elderberry extract SAMBUCOL, which was done in 2001.
A study of 60 people who had flu symptoms was performed in 2004 and this found that those of them who were given elderberry extract for 5 days recovered four days earlier than the people who were given a placebo.
There is no evidence suggesting that elderberry extract can prevent the flu.The evidence does suggest that it will lessen the severity of the infection and will promote faster recovery.

For best results elderberry extract should be taken, according to the makers instructions, as soon as the first flu symptoms appear. Standardised elderberry extract is available in health food stores in syrup or capsule form. There are possible side effects such as allergic reaction or mild indigestion but this is quite rare.

How to Get Rid of a Cold - Case: Elderberry

What is Elderberry?
Elderberry is a small tree that has its origins in North America. European version of Elderberry can be found growing throughout Europe and also in Asia and North Africa. The flowers, leaves, berries, bark and roots of elderberries have been used in folk remedy for centuries. "The medicine cabinet of the common people" is an epithet that is well earned in the case of elderberry. Elderberry has not been studied much by western medicine but already many medicinal benefits have been rediscovered.

Elderberry As a Cold Remedy
Elderberry has multiple uses as it is a potent antioxidant and has a capability to boost immunity. Flower water of elderberry can be used as a soothing gargle and infusions of blossoms combined with other herbs can be used for quickening the recovery from common cold or flu.
Old remedy against common colds and flu is the juice from the berries. Elderberry juice is also believed to bring relief to asthma and bronchitis. Research made with elderberry juice have confirmed that it has the capability to destroy the ability of cold and flu viruses to infect a cell. People with flu taking the elderberry juice have been shown to have less severe symptoms and recover faster than those not taking the juice.

Scientific studies made in Germany have showed that elderberry anthocyanins boost the production of cytokines thus enhancing the function of the immune system. Cytokines act as messengers in the immune system, helping to regulate immune response and thus helping to defend the body against disease. Same studies also indicated that anthocyanins found in elderberries posses high antioxidant capacity.

Availability and use
Elderberry is available at least as a syrup, tincture, capsules and lozenges. You can also find dried elder flowers standardized at least 0,8% flavonoids. One of the most famous elderberry products is called Sambucol. You can buy Sambucol at least in the form of extracts and capsules. Sinupret is another commercial brand that is quite popular. Consisting of elderberry and other herbs, Sinupret is mainly used to support healthy sinus and respiratory function.

As with many other common cold remedies, also elderberry should be used as soon as the symptoms of cold or flu start occurring. Here are some examples of use for adults:
  • Tea: steep 3-5 grams of dried elder flower in 1 cup of boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Strain and drink three times per day
  • Sinupret: take two tablets three times per day for bacterial sinusitis
  • Sambucol: For cold and flu take four tablespoons per day for three days
Restrictions On Use
Raw berries should not be used since they can cause nausea and vomiting. It is advisable to use commercially prepared syrups or extracts, since the roots, leaves and stems of elderberries can contain a source of toxic cyanide. Flowers of elderberry are usually safe, only mild gastrointestinal stress or allergic reactions can occur. Irregular heartbeat and diarrhea are side effects that can in some very rare cases occur. If you are pregnant, nursing or have a complex liver disease it is recommendable to avoid using elderberry. Before using elderberry in young children, please consult your physician.

Beat the Swine Flu Virus by Boosting Your Immune System With Natural Cures!

With all the crazyness going on about swine flu, I figured I'd take a different approach. Yes, swine flu is bad, and it has killed many people but it's STILL just a flu, and the best way to PREVENT a flu (or a cold) is by having a strong immune system... Not by having the right drugs to cure yourself in case you get it. Prevent this from the beginning and you're better off, catch my drift?

An average person gets anywhere from 2-3 serious colds every year, while  the average child has anywhere from 4-8. That's staggering! And the worst part is that some people have been getting colds for so long they think it's NORMAL... It's not! There is nothing normal about getting sick, it means  you have a weak immune system and you could catch any virus with ease. Instead, you should have a strong immune system that prevents you from EVER getting sick... THAT'S normal in my opinion.

So how do we go about doing that? Well I have a list of some of the top herbal remedies that are known to help boost your immune system and help keep it strong year-round. These immune system boosters are pretty inexpensive and can be taken as a preventative measure. Also note that if you DO manage to get sick, these remedies will help you recover a lot faster. On with the list...

Elderberry
Also known as Sambucus, is a species of shrubs or small trees. Mainly found in the Northern Hemisphere, the elderberry has been used to treat influenza, sinusitis and colds for hundreds of years in folk medicine. There was a study done in Norway where researchers took 60 patients who were suffering from flu-like symptoms and did a randomized, double blind placebo test. 93% of the patients who were treated with elderberry were symptom free within 2 days, and those that were given the placebo took up to 6 days to recover.
How does it work? It contains antioxidants called flavonoids which have shown to stimulate the immune system along with anthocyanins - which has anti-inflammatory properties. Throw in the fact that elderberry is proven safe for adults and children alike with no known side effects and you have a WINNER! Just remember that not ALL forms of elderberry have shown to work, only true elderberry extract has proven effective... So if a company comes out with something like "Elderberry toast spread" to help treat your flu symptoms, send some hate mail action their way, cuz they're just ripping you off.

Licorice
You either love, or hate this stuff... This includes licorice flavours and candies. But when you're sick, I think you should just suck it up, buttercup. Licorice is a known anti-inflammatory, antipasmodic, expectorant (expels mucus) &  demulcent (helps soothe your sore throat). Quite the performer then, is it not? You can take licorice in powdered form (the root) or as an extract. As you would expect, this stuff is POTENT... So don't take it for more than 5 weeks because it can cause your kidneys to retain water & sodium and lose potassium. Moderation is KEY here.

Echinacea
A species of plants that are commonly known as the coneflower. These plants are native to eastern and central part of North America. Echinacea is HOT right now, there are a boat load of products out there with this stuff promising to help you rid of your cold and flu like symptoms in days. After some personal use, I've found that ecchinacea by itself is moderately effective, but taken in conjunction with say... Elderberry or Licorice has a much more dramatic effect. If you ARE planning on combining this stuff with anything else... You do so at your OWN risk.
So, how does this stuff work? It has three bioactive ingredients that stimulate the immune system: alkylamides, polysaccharides and cichoric acid. Again, this is best taken in standardized extract from .
The good thing about echinacea is that it is good for both preventative and therapeutic treatment. A study published in the Clinical Therapeutics found that people who were taking Echinacea lowered their chances of catching a cold by 55%. I'll take that!

Astragalus
Another species of about 2000 types of herbs and small shrubs, and also known by the following names: Huang Qi, Bei Qi, Hwanggi, Milk Vetch. The yellow root of this plant is where the medicinal properties lie, therefore some root extract is what you're after.
This herb's antiviral properties works against certain types of infections such as: the common cold, herpes simplex, coxsackie virus and parainfluenza. It is also used for impaired immunity and as an adjunctive cancer treatment.
There have been studies done, and they show that astragalus increases the number of stem cells in bone marrow and lymph tissue; enhances production of immunoglobulin; stimulates macrophages; and activates T-cells and natural fighter cells. I can just SEE the supplement companies trying to isolate the key ingredient that is shown to boost T-cells. Sometimes being able to see the future is quite entertaining.

Active Lifestyle
Before we get to our last natural immune system booster, let it be known that the most important immune boosting technique is - AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE. I harp on this over and over again, and it's something I hammer into everyone. Regular exercise and proper eating habits has NO substitute. A strong body has a strong immune system, and combining that with these herbal immune boosters will make you unstoppable.
Check out this incredible Free fitness book mini-course for an awesome workout routine that will help shrink your fat cells, build lean muscle, along with nutritional tips to help keep you energized throughout the day.

Reishi Mushroom
Finally we have shrooms! OK maybe this isn't the same type of stuff, but it is used a lot in traditional Chinese Medicine (for over 2000 years to be exact!). Composed of complex carbs such as polysaccharides, triterpeniods & different amino acids, it is supposed to calm the mind, restore emotional balance, improve your immune function and can be used for preventative treatment. The water-soluble polysaccharides is the main ingredient that is known to have anti-tumor, immune boosting and blood pressure lowering effects. You get this stuff in powder form and can be taken as directed.

So there you have it, your personal army to defend off any type of flu; whether it be swine, wine, dine... Whatever. Prevention is always better than finding a "cure". Cheers!

Usefulness Of Elderberry Juice

Elderberry juice supplies vitamin C to assist in the prevention and treatment of colds. Elderberry juice also acts as a demulcent to soothe the chest.
It also acts to induce sweating (a property described as sudorific) which has been commonly held to be beneficial in the early stages of a feverish cold. Elderberry juice also has mild laxative and diuretic (the promotion of water loss) properties. For variety, try mixing elderberry juice with apple juice, blackberry juice or rhubarb juice.

The elderberry tree grows wild throughout Europe and has a long history of medicinal applications. In addition to the berries, the bark leaves and root of the tree have all been shown to have active properties. The berries themselves must be allowed to ripen fully before picking as the unripe fruit contains poisonous alkaloids and cyanogenic glycosides.
The alkaloids are characterized by their bitterness and are chemically related to quinine, caffeine, nicotine and strychnine.

The cyanogenic glycosides release poisonous hydrocyanic acid. This compound can be lethal to small animals, but in the doses present in the unripe elderberry, tends only to bring tears to the eyes of adults. While it is important to choose only ripe elderberries, the presence of poisons in the unripe fruit should not put you off this useful berry. Think of the well-loved potato.

A green or sprouting potato contains the poison solanine (another alkaloid) which should be avoided, but this hasn't stopped millions of people from enjoying the standard untainted version.

In bygone days elderberries were illicitly added to red wine and port to enhance their color.
Leading doctors carried out repeated studies to discover that it was only port that had been diluted with elderberry juice that had this anti-neuralgic property. The genuine article had no such value.
As a result of their investigation, the physicians of Prague recommended a combination of 30g of elderberry juice and 10g of port wine in the treatment of sciatica and neuralgia.

Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of natural home remedies websites which have information on home based natural cures and remedies from different juices like elderberry, carrots, beet etc.

The Power of Elderberry Lozenges - Learn How it Can Cure Flu Symptoms

Cold and flu season comes every year and every year and hundreds of thousands of people die from influenza around the world. With the rise in H1N1 illnesses, there's worldwide concern that it could become the next pandemic.

While healthy individuals rarely die from the agonizing flu symptoms of headache, muscle ache, respiratory problems and fever, work and school are missed, family and friends must be avoided, and the week spent in bed is miserable. New research demonstrates that flu viruses can be blocked and the duration and intensity of flu symptoms can be cut from six days down to only two with the use of elderberry lozenges.

Once infected, the intensity and duration of flu symptoms can be greatly reduced by staying hydrated, warm and rested, and using elderberry lozenges to boost the immune system and to reduce pain and fever. Scientific research demonstrated that recipients of elderberry lozenges were often headache and fever free within 24 hours, whereas the placebo recipients felt worse than before.

The Proof About Elderberry Lozenges Is In
The current flu virus pandemic has individuals and national leaders looking for H1N1 remedies. While there is no known cure for the common cold, elderberry extract has been proven to be one of the most effective H1N1 remedies. Elderberry lozenges prevent influenza by attaching, or binding, to the influenza virus, rending it incapable of attaching to a host cell, thereby preventing infection. Elderberry lozenges also contain flavonoids, which are antioxidants that stimulate the immune system, as well as anti-inflammatory agents that reduce pain and fever.

The Online Journal of Pharmacology and PharmacoKinetics (Volume 5: 32-43, 2009), recently published scientific findings that show elderberry lozenges are able to block the influenza virus and cause significant reductions in flu symptoms when compared to a control group given placebos.

The double-blind research study demonstrated the effectiveness of elderberry lozenges when two populations experiencing flu-like symptoms were compared. Both groups started the study with similar flu-like symptoms at the beginning of the study but, within 24 hours, there was a noticeable improvement in the elderberry extract group, whereas the placebo group's symptoms became worse.

Getting Sick Is Not Inevitable
While it is true that children need to be exposed to a variety of germs to stimulate their immune system defenses, it is not necessary that you become infected with the influenza virus after being exposed. There are many preventative measures you can take to minimize your risk of infection. First and foremost is frequent hand washing with soap and water. Hand sanitizers are also effective.

Stay away from people with flu-like symptoms and disinfect your home, car and workplace. Use alcohol wipes on your ears to kill any viruses that you may have contracted through the air or by touching yourself with contaminated fingers.
It is always a good idea to keep your hands off of your face altogether during cold and flu season, unless you have just washed them. In the same way, avoid eating raw foods that you have not washed with soap and water.
Since viruses can stay alive for hours on a surface, it is imperative that you be aware of what you are touching. Elderberry lozenges can be used to boost your immune system and build a stronger defense against illness, in the same way that elderberry extracts have been used historically to treat and prevent illness.

The History Of Elderberry
Elderberry is a fruit-bearing shrub found in temperate zones around the world and it has been used for food, drink and medicine for countless centuries. In the early 1900's elderberry elixirs were given to school aged children to prevent illness. The polyphenolic and phenolic compounds now known to be found in elderberry fruit are the antioxidants that help to boost the immune system.

Today's scientific technology and research facilities have only proven what has been known for centuries in traditional cultures: elderberry extract is an effective preventative measure against influenza and is one of the safest and most effective H1N1 remedies to reduce flu symptoms and duration.

Chris Harmen is a writer for Respiratory Guard Elderberry Lozenges. Elderberry extract boosts the immune system and blocks the attack of viruses and is one of the best H1N1 remedies [http://www.h1n1flucures.com] available as an all-natural, safe flu remedy.

Elderberry For Colds

Sambucus, or elderberry, is commonly taken as a supplement to treat the common cold. It is a genus of between 5 - 30 shrubs and trees indigenous to both the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It is a member of the adoxaceae family, a small family of flowering plants. Elderberry has been used for hundreds of years to treat flu like symptoms. In this article we will discuss elderberry's effects on the immune system and how it treats the common cold.

The "active ingredients" in elderberry are flavanoids, anthocyanins, and lectins. Flavonoids are a class of secondary metabolites. A secondary metabolite is an organic compound that is not directly involved in the growth and development of the organisms it is found in. Anthocyanins are a sub class of flavonoids. They have anti inflammatory properties as well as anti oxidant properties. Lectins have hemagglutinin properties. This means that it causes red blood cells to clump together. The synergy of these three active ingredients is very effective at treating the common cold.

A study concluded at Hadassah University Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel determined that elderberry is effective at stimulating the immune system. In the double blind, placebo based study, there were higher levels of antibodies to the influenza virus in the group given elderberry compared to the group given a placebo. There was also a higher number of cytokines in the group given elderberry. Cytokines are cellular messengers that stimulate macrophages. Macrophages are the "seek and destroy" cells of the immune system.

The most remarkable finding was that elderberry increased the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) in the group given elderberry. TNF is a type of cytokine that induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) in tumor cells. This finding led the researchers to believe that elderberry could be beneficial to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) patients as well as patients with cancer.

The best deal I found on Amazon for elderberry is the Nature's Way brand. For around $8 you get 100 575 mg capsules. The manufacturer recommends taking two capsules two times per day with food. Nature's Way also offers elderberry as a tasty syrup for kids. For around $15 you get eight ounces of elderberry syrup.
The manufacturer recommends taking 1 - 2 teaspoons per day for maintenance, and 2 - 3 teaspoons per day if your child is sick. The syrup might be the way to go if you have kids who have difficulty swallowing pills.
As you can see, elderberry is an effective cure for a cold. To learn about more cold cures, please visit cureforacold.org/

Dandelions And Your Health

Almost everyone hates that pesky weed called the dandelion. Every year when the weather gets warm sure enough some yard in your neighborhood will have a huge crop of dandelions. You cringe in fear and anger at the prospect of all those dandelions going to seed. Truly it will be an ill wind if any of those seedlings get blown into your carefully manicured lawn.

Most people don't realize that the common dandelion is a very powerful detoxification agent. It has been used for generations to treat liver and kidney ailments of all sorts. Its detoxification power has also been used to treat respiratory problems, cure gastro-intestinal ailments and cleanse the circulatory system. It even is reputed to help dissolve some kidney stones.

In northern China, the dandelion is considered to be one of the top 10 herbs. But if you live in the southern hemisphere you probably have never seen a dandelion. Most people in North America and Europe are very familiar with the yellow flowered dandelion.

The word dandelion literally means "lion's tooth" because of the jagged shape of the leaves. The French, however, tend to be a little more adventurous when it comes to naming things. They figured out the medicinal and detoxification value of dandelions a long time ago. Their name for dandelion is "pissenlit". Can you guess what that translates to in English? You guessed it. It means, "piss in bed".

The French gave it that name because dandelions are very powerful diuretics. In other words they very quickly cleanse and accelerate your urinary system. It is not uncommon for children playing in a field of dandelions to wet the bed later that night. It really isn't the kid's fault. The dandelions did it. This stimulation of the child's liver also has a powerful detoxification effect. It flushes out all kinds of toxins.
Although dandelions are almost always treated as weeds they are listed by the US Department of Agriculture as one of the top vegetables for nutrition.

They are chock full of all kinds of vitamins and minerals. But if you decide to experiment with the detoxification power of dandelions how do you go about preparing them? What part is eatable and what gets thrown out? All parts are eatable but generally only the flower and leaves are consumed.

You can put the leaves in a salad and eat them that way. Or put a colander full of dandelion leaves in a juicer along with an apple and make apple-dandelion juice.
Checking the internet for dandelion recipes will reveal a whole host of preparation options. Of course, make sure the dandelions you collect have not been treated with pesticides or weed killer. And to be safe thoroughly wash them before preparation. If you have liver or kidney problems make sure you consult with your doctor before trying dandelions.

Dandelions have also been reputed to remove warts. If you rub the yellow flower part on a wart and do this once a day for a month or so many people have reported that their warts go away. Of course this may just be an old wife's tale. But if you have warts it certainly would not hurt to give it a try and see if it helps.
There are many detoxification treatments and cures that work but have not yet been thoroughly tested and documented by doctors and scientists.

So when next spring brings a heavy crop of dandelions to your front lawn, don't despair. Harvest them and put them to good use before you break out the weed killing pesticides. Clear the "weeds" but don't let the detoxification power of dandelions go to waste.

New Herbal Remedy Favorites and Dandelion

Dandelion is considered to be one of the newest additions to the herbal repertoire. Historians have noted that there is no mention of the dandelion plant in Western history until its first appearance in the Ortus Sanitatis of 1485. In traditional Chinese medicine, dandelion was also not mentioned until later times. The dandelion did not become a popular Chinese herbal plant until the 7the century.

The name of the dandelion has always invoked curiosity. How did this herb get its funny name? The story goes that the dandelion got its name from a surgeon in the 15th century, who thought that the shape of the dandelion leaves resembled a lion's teeth.

Dandelion is also interesting because it is used differently in different parts of the world. In the West, for instance, it is customary to separate the leaves and the root of the tree. However, in traditional Chinese medicine, it is customary to keep the plant intact when preparing herbal remedies.

The taste of dandelion has been described as cool, sweet, and sometimes bitter. The leaves are known to contain bitter glycosides, vitamins A, B, C, D, several minerals, including salt, iron, and potassium. The leaves of the dandelion plant also contain carotenoids, terpenoids, choline, and potassium salts.

The root of the dandelion plant contains tannins, volatile oils, triterpenes, sterols, bitter glycosides, asparagus, and inulin. The leaves of the dandelion plant are thought to be diuretic in nature. They are also believed to have the ability to treat liver problems, and to serve as a strong digestive tonic. The root of the dandelion plant is also used. The root is mostly thought of as a liver tonic, antirheumatic, and diuretic. It is also believed to promote the flow of bile.

The root of the dandelion plant is also often used. It is a favorite liver stimulant of traditional herbalists. The root is often used as a gentle, nourishing cleansing tonic. IT is used to treat a range of products, ranging from jaundice to gallstones. The root of the dandelion plant can also be used to treat chronic toxic conditions including skin problems (acne, eczema, etc.) and joint inflammations. It is also considered a powerful tool for treating chronic constipation.

The dandelion plant can be found in a number of herbal remedies. Dandelion leaves can be consumed raw by adding a few springs to a spring salad as a cleansing herb. A juice can also be created from the dandelion leaves. Simply puree the leaves and take the juice whenever a diuretic action is sought.

Dandelion leaves are often infused to create a hot tea that helps treat toxic conditions such as eczema, acne and even gout. It also serves as a very gentle liver and digestive stimulant that has a gentle cleansing action. The dandelion can also be made into a tincture that can be taken for a variety of reasons, including as a herb to help heal a failing heart. The root can also be turned into at tincture to great gout, acne, and eczema.

Effective Against Acne? Dandelion and Its Healing Properties

The benefits of dandelion as a herbal cure are plentiful. But is it really effective when it comes to acne? Dandelion tea, in particular, is being toted as an effective substance for controlling acne, but it has yet to be proven if its claims can be universally accepted.

Some people claim that when they were looking for natural cures for their acne, dandelion tea worked. This may have been incidental, or the lessening of the acne could well have been caused by the ingestion of dandelion tea. Let us first examine the properties of dandelion tea and see if they would indeed contribute to its effectiveness.

Dandelion is known as a hated weed. However, it is also recognized as a valuable medicinal herb. For example, it has been proven to have strong diuretic properties. This means it is good for expelling water and waste from the body. This would make it an excellent component for tea, which is why it is often marketed in tea form.

Expelling waste water and substances from the body helps in cleansing the liver, which in turn helps in creating a better blood circulation. The liver is instrumental to filtering out toxic elements in the bloodstream, but if the liver is overloaded with toxins, it is not able to do its job well.

Some believe that a poorly functioning liver or a bad bloodstream causes acne. However, the cause of acne is known to not be related to the liver, or to the bloodstream. Acne is caused by an overproduction of hormones, which is why it often happens in certain particularly hormonal stages in our life, like pubescence and pregnancy. Even with a healthy liver or circulatory system, acne may still take place if the hormone imbalance exists.
It has also been scientifically proven that some people have a genetic predisposition to acne, which would explain why Caucasians are more prone to it than Asians are, although both races are of course prone to acne.

However, acne may be aggravated by a number of factors. Irritation caused by rubbing or scratching may cause an acne condition to become more aggressive, and even leave deep scars. Food allergies may also become manifest in acne outbreaks, regardless of whether or not they come with any other symptoms, such as shortness of breath and swelling in any part of the body or face.

If we're worried about what's going to "cure" acne, dandelion tea may not do the trick - however, its ability to cleanse the circulatory system may help in calming down or preventing acne outbreaks. It never hurts to keep the body clean - and it's possible to do this with herbal substances, like dandelion tea.

Acne affects 90% of people worldwide. Some people are able to stop acne, with acne dandelion, dead in its tracks.. Discover how you can quickly and easily find remedies for acne outbreaks and get the clear skin you deserve by visiting http://www.clear-skin-solutions.com/

Dandelion and Acne

Dandelion is one of the most common plants on the planet - but did you know it also one of the most useful for medicinal purposes? Dandelion has long been used to cure ailments like liver disease, kidney disease, digestive disorders, gall bladder problems, and skin abnormalities.

It is a well-known antioxidant, containing high levels of vitamins A, B, C, and D, as well as providing a good source of iron, potassium, and zinc. Dandelions high antiviral and antioxidant properties make it one of the most beneficial herbs on the market.

How does dandelion root work to treat acne?
Dandelion treats acne by fighting the source of the problem - the excess build up of sebum production in the body. Sebum is the oil that produces acne, and when levels of sebum are too high acne will flourish. Dandelion not only prevents excess sebum from entering the bloodstream, but it also increases liver function to help the body flush out bad bacteria and toxins.

How can I use dandelion for acne treatment?
Dandelion is available in capsules and should be taken daily for best results. It is also one of the main ingredients inside liver cleanse and detox pills, so these are also a good option. Result are not immediate, but will be seen within 3-4 weeks of continual daily use.

Herbal treatments are a very effective way to treat acne for many reasons. Most importantly, natural herbs fight the cause of acne rather than the symptom. They also have NO side effects unlike most other acne treatments.

Natural Cure For Liver Disease

One of the greatest abilities of the Liver is that it can regenerate itself. This should provide a great deal of hope for anyone suffering from liver disease. There are a few things that you need to do in order to turn your scarred liver into a brand new healthy liver. Follow the steps below:

Start consuming Dandelion (that plant that probably grows all around your home). The leaves of the Dandelion plant can be picked, washed, and mixed in with your salads. But you can also find Dandelion tinctures or other forms of Dandelion extracts at your local health food store.

Dandelion is extremely useful for the health of the liver and related organs and glands. (Note that a poorly functioning liver will only bring DOWN the function of other organs and glands). It has been used to successfully treat liver disease, such as hepatitis and liver insufficiency.

If you only had one choice for picking a natural cure for liver disease it should be Milk Thistle Seed Extract (...fortunately you have more than one choice, so why not use all of them, it will only speed up your healing). There are a few reasons why Milk Thistle Seed Extract (also referred to as "Mte") is beneficial to the liver and liver regeneration. Firstly, it protects the liver from toxins.

Toxins, like Alcohol (the number one cause of Cirrhosis), compete against Mte for space on the cell membrane of the liver...except they always lose against the much stronger Mte. If your liver has Mte (milk thistle seed extract) all around itself, therefore preventing harmful toxins from destroying the liver, then the liver actually has time to regenerate. Also, Mte increase protein synthesis, which means that it speeds up the regeneration of destroyed liver tissue.

Another huge benefit of Milk Thistle Seed Extract is its interference with the enterohepatic circulation. Now, you might be wondering what the enterohepatic circulation is? Toxins are constantly being cycled back in forth between the gastrointestinal tract and the liver.
Each time the toxins pass by the liver, the liver gets damaged. However, Mte interrupts the first absorption of toxins and then it helps prevent the re-absorption when the toxins are recycled. Cells that are not yet poisoned are therefore protected and become sites for new liver cell growth. In time a full restoration of the liver can be achieved.

I don't want to sound repetitive so all I'm going to say about Artichoke is that it has the same healing properties as Milk Thistle. That being said I would use both Milk Thistle Seed Extract and Artichoke extract to heal my liver (along with a regular consumption of Dandelion extract).

The human liver will regenerate itself, by using the above mentioned natural healers we can restore our livers faster. Don't give in to taking pharmaceutical drugs they cause way too much damage to the liver, even if they are meant to heal your liver. Use natural cures and you will heal your liver faster, safer, and cheaper.

There are many other ways to speed up the recovery of your liver. Things like Acupuncture, Acupressure, Reflexology, Magnet Therapy, Essential Oils, Homeopathic Medicine, Home Remedies, Healing Crystals, and other Healing Herbs can all be used simultaneously to increase the restoration of the liver.

Ovarian Cyst Relief Secrets - Natural Remedies to Use at Home

So many women suffer from the pain of an ovarian cyst and are totally frustrated and miserable with the treatment they receive from their doctor. However, there are some ovarian cyst relief secrets that many women may not be aware of, and which are very effective at not only relieving the pain but at preventing the cysts from recurring.

Ovarian cysts are thought to be caused by an imbalance of hormones and this is why most doctors prescribe BCs as a form of treatment because they trick the body into thinking it is pregnant and stops ovulation from occurring. Unfortunately, BCs and painkillers can only mask the current symptoms and even surgery does not guarantee the avoidance of cysts in the future.

Natural products get to work with the body and target the root core of the problem, which means they are safer to use and also the effects are long term.

One great ovarian cyst relief secret is the use of chickweed which contains numerous vitamins and minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorous, potassium and vitamins B and C. Chickweed in the form of capsules or tincture helps strengthen all of the body's systems and increases vitality.

It has been proven to dissolve ovarian cysts and American Indians actually use it as a remedy against cancer. Whilst chickweed will not work overnight, I have read numerous reports in forums from women who have stated that over a period of 3 months, their large ovarian cysts drastically reduced in size when they used chickweed on a daily basis.

Another very good natural product to use is castor oil and this is most effective when used as a wrap, together with a heating pad. The best way to use castor oil is to soak a white towel in castor oil and then place it over the painful area.

Place some plastic wrapping on top of this and then put a heating pad onto the top of that. Relax for at least half an hour and the pain will soon disappear. Castor oil is a great natural product that will help to soothe and break down any inflammation, if used regularly.

These are only a couple of natural ovarian cyst relief secrets but there are many natural treatments and lifestyle changes that will help rid your body of painful cysts and prevent them from ever coming back.

So many women are led to believe that medication or surgery are their only options when treating an ovarian cyst, but trust me when I tell you there are numerous natural ovarian cyst relief secrets that you can do yourself at home that will effectively dissolve your cysts and prevent them from ever coming back again.

All About Chickweed Attacks

Most weeds are usually easy targets due to the fast early spring that makes them grow in the garden. Chickweed is known to be one of the most common weeds that usually take over the fringes and lawn of the garden beds.

You can easily identify chickweed and controlling it is not a big problem especially in cultivated gardens. In addition, chickweed is nutritious, edible and can be used as a medicinal plant.
Though it is easy to identify, it may be difficult to describe chickweed.

It grows at ground level in a mat of stems, leaves, flowers and tiny buds, which can be eaten.
The small leaves develop in pairs and are green in color.
The stem of the plant is moist, almost hallow-like and delicate. There are small flower buds that are not opened and white flowers grown at the ends of the stems.

Because of the fast growth of chickweed, it can be a trouble in gardens and lawns if not maintained properly. It is important not to allow the chickweed to grow in your lawns and gardens too long to mature and produce a seed.

Chickweed is the same as other edible weed so make sure to identify it before eating and do not gather plants from places that may be exposed to herbicide treatments or pesticides.
Though this weed is considered as a medicinal plant, remember that there are some people who may have sensitivities or allergies from touching or eating them.

Chickweed can be steamed or cooked in soups. It is a common ingredient in green salads. It is necessary to harvest these plants when they are green, full and lush including the tender buds, flowers and stems. It is usually recommended for skin irritations and weight loss.
Aside from using the leaves fresh, it can be dried and used for making herbal teas. Chickweed can be purchased in the form of tinctures and capsules and oftentimes used in formulations for ointments and poultices.

When you see a little chickweed that grows in your garden a weed killer can help in getting rid of it, but if any weed killer cannot handle the job, you can do these steps to control chickweed growth:

1. You need to pull as much chickweed as you can out of the ground using your hand. Though it may appear think and strong on the surface, it is very stringy and thin below, which makes it easy to pull.

2. The next thing you have to do is to let the ground breathe. Use a shovel or an ax in doing this or you can also rent an aerator to let ground absorb the water and fertilizer.

3. Spread fertilizer evenly and generously on the ground and make sure that the affected spots are covered.

4. It is necessary to water your garden every day for two to three weeks once you start to water.

Afterwards, you will be able to see the chickweed die and the grass will start to grow.
When this happens, you need to spread fertilizer on the garden again and continue watering every day for another two weeks.
